Alpha Delta Phi Toronto is committed to making our community a better place by giving something back. Each year, a Philanthropy Chairman is elected to host a philanthropic event aimed to help a local charitable organization. For decades, Alpha Delta Phi took on the Hospital for Sick Children's SCAN (Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Program) as our cause of choice. The wall in our sitting room is lined with certificates from the SCAN program, acknowledging our years of consistantly large donations. After watching this program and its donor list grow over time, we felt that it was time to sponsor a new program. In 2004, Alpha Delta Phi Toronto decided to sponsor a smaller organization who may be more helped by our donations. After contacting the St. Felix Centre we decided that this local community centre for underprivileged families would be able to more directly appreciate our assistance. For Christmas, Alpha Delta Phi organized a Santa Charity event where each Brother would buy a gift for one of the twenty-two children who may not normally get a Christmas present. We brought Santa along and he gave each of the children their gifts. Our Fraternity was extremely happy to help these needy families and spread some of the Christmas cheer over the holiday season. With these and other charity events throughout the year, the Alpha Delts continue to lead the Greek-lettered community at the University of Toronto in helping those in our community through philanthropic means. |
